Delaware State Police Sergeant Handing Out Christian Tracts at Pagan Pride Day

While I was making the rounds of local Pagan Pride days doing presentations, two incidents have come to light involving police agencies.  One is the Lawton P.D. issue I mention in another article in this newsletter.  The other involves the Delaware State Police.  Amy Blackthorne, a local PPD organizer in Delaware, informs me that Sergeant Willard of that police force showed up at their Pagan Pride Day event this year to hand out Christian tracts.  Amy reports:

“I was so taken aback that even though he came in ‘church clothes’ he made a point to growl at the people who wouldn't take his literature, including security that he was ‘Sgt Willard of the Delaware State police’ in a way that suggested that not taking his literature could result in arrest.

”I was standing next to one of our security members when he was ‘directing traffic’ away from the children's area, due to last years problems of church members targeting pagan children.  (The woman I helped with the children's area had her five year old come to her in tears, saying that ‘that man’ told her Mommy was going to hell, because she didn't love Jesus.)

“This security member was politely directing church goers away from children and saying, ‘Please stay and enjoy the festival, but please stay away from the children and away from the workshops.’

‘Willard attempted to foist one of his tracts off on this gentleman, to which he was told, ‘No, thank you, but please enjoy the rest of your day.’  He tried again.  ‘No, thank you.’  ‘Well, I'm Sgt Willard of the Delaware State Police and you CAN"T tell me where I can go!’ and stomped off to bother someone else.”

I’ve asked Amy to canvass the people who attended to see if any of them got one of these tracts, as I want to see what it contained.  Apparently two years ago Willard was here at PPD harassing people with the same tracts.  I’m going to be contacting the Delaware State Police to advise them about this issue.

Attacks on Pagan Shops in Salem

StarRobin of the Middletown Area Pagans reports that since May 2007 some of the Pagan shops in Salem, MA, have been attacked or vandalized.  The most recent attack was at Crow Haven Corner. The owners of this shop hosted a procession through the city at midnight on Saturday, Sept. 1st. They have asked for Pagans to light candles and send in energy in support.
