themselves “religious.” This conditioning sometimes makes it difficult for me to explain my beliefs to others, since their experience is so different from mine.

As a police officer I represent authority and law, but not Jehovah. I follow a spiritual path unlike that of most Christians, though I’ve met many Christians with whom I share many ideas. My beliefs aren’t opposed to the Christian path, just different.

I am one of the growing community of police officers, fire fighters and other emergency services personnel who are Wiccan. Most of these Wiccan emergency services professionals aren’t public about their beliefs as I am. They are wary of the large number of intolerant people who are still out there. Thirty years ago, even I wouldn’t have been as open about my beliefs as I am now. It took me a while to get to this point. 

The first rule of magick is: You create your own reality. This year marks the tenth anniversary of Pagan Pride Day.  We’ve come a long way, but we’ve quite a way to create the reality that we want yet.
